Recovery Update After Rooster Attack and Knee Surgery

A few weeks ago, an unexpected incident on the farm led to a serious knee injury that required unplanned surgery. I want to share an update on my recovery journey after undergoing an IND knee surgery with a bone graft, caused by a rooster attack. This experience has been challenging, but every day brings progress, and I am eager to return to the barn and farm life. I also want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has supported me through this time, especially Wayne, who has been my rock.

The Incident That Changed Everything

Farm life is full of surprises, but I never expected a rooster to cause such a serious injury. While tending to the animals, a rooster became aggressive and attacked my knee. The injury was more severe than it appeared at first, leading to the need for immediate medical attention. After thorough evaluation, doctors recommended an IND knee surgery with a bone graft to repair the damage.

This type of surgery involves taking a bone graft to help the knee heal properly, which adds complexity to the recovery process. The injury and surgery forced me to pause farm activities and focus on healing.

Early Days of Recovery

The first few days after surgery were the toughest. Pain and limited mobility made it difficult to stay positive, but I knew recovery would take time. I followed all medical advice carefully, including:

  • Keeping the knee elevated to reduce swelling

  • Taking prescribed medications on schedule

  • Avoiding putting weight on the injured leg

Wayne stepped up in a big way, managing the farm and household tasks. His support has been crucial in keeping everything running smoothly while I focus on healing.

Emotional and Mental Strength

Recovering from an injury like this is not just physical. It takes mental resilience to stay motivated and patient during the slow healing process. I have found comfort in:

  • Staying connected with friends and family through calls and messages

  • Reading and learning about similar recovery stories

  • Setting small, achievable goals each week

  • Focusing on the positive steps forward rather than setbacks

Wayne’s constant encouragement and care have been a source of strength. His ability to hold everything together on the farm while supporting me emotionally has made a huge difference.

Looking Forward to Returning to the Farm

The barn and animals are a big part of my life, and I miss being hands-on every day. I am excited about the day I can walk back into the barn without limitation.

I am confident that with continued care and patience, I will be back to full strength soon.

Gratitude for Support and Patience

This journey has reminded me how important community and kindness are. I want to thank everyone who sent "feel better" cards, offered help, or simply checked in. Your support has lifted my spirits and made recovery easier.

Thank you also for your patience as I take the time needed to heal properly. I promise to be back up and running on the farm in no time, stronger and wiser than before.
